More Bonds: Anderson Still Keeping His Mouth Shut…
Wow, Barry, you sure have a hell of a friend in Greg Anderson! Honestly, if I sat in jail for more than a year combined to keep my pal out of the slammer and not indict myself in anything further, I’d be expecting a chest full of money and house waiting for me in Mexico.
In an example of some kind of warped and utterly stupid blind loyalty, despite his release from prison, Greg Anderson, Barry’s trainer is still keeping his lips tightly closed.
Personal trainer Greg Anderson, who went to federal prison rather than testify against Barry Bonds, was released last week when baseball’s home run leader was indicted. But he could face more time behind bars, because Anderson’s lawyers say he still will not cooperate with federal authorities.
Anderson, 41, could be called upon to testify if Bonds goes to trial on perjury and obstruction of justice charges related to alleged steroids use. This time, Anderson could be charged with criminal contempt if he refuses to cooperate. Attorneys Paula Canny and Mark Geragos told The Daily News in New York their client will not relent. “He’s never going to testify,” Geragos said.
Unlike the civil contempt charges, which kept Anderson in jail while the grand jury investigating Bonds was active, criminal contempt charges could mean a longer sentence. He would first have to be indicted and then found guilty in a trial. Canny says she admires Anderson for his consistency and resilience.
“I know that some people think that Greg is displaced,” Canny said. “I don’t think it’s my position to judge, but whatever his position is, whatever it is that can make him be able to be most comfortable with who he is, we have to support.”
Geez. Barry, you are only lucky man and honestly when all is said and done, you owe Greg a lot! He’s kept you out of the slammer this long!
