Reunited! Glavine Returns to the Braves; Mariano Will Take the Yankees Money; Castillo Stays A Met; U.S. Wins Baseball’s World Cup…
Personally, back when it happened, I felt and knew that Tom Glavine should not ever left Atlanta. He should have won his 300th game in a Brave uniform, and not have been subject to the awful loss at the end of the 2007 season, especially in a Met uniform.
Now, he’s going home to Atlanta in perhaps the swan song in his baseball career.
According to the AP, The 303-game winner returned to the Atlanta Braves yesterday, agreeing to a one-year, $8 million contract. The Braves and Glavine’s reps came to an agreement this weekend.
Congrats Tom! You’re back where you belong!
Well, it looks like Mariano Rivera will more than likely take the Yankees money (besides, who would not) after all. He will accept the Yankees’ three-year, $45 million offer, and it would make the highest-paid closer ever with an average annual salary of $15 million. Rivera had 30 saves in 34 opportunities and a 3.15 ERA in 2007.
The Yankees needed to re-sign him, but to throw that much money at a player is beyond lunacy.
According to wire reports, Second baseman Luis Castillo decided to stay with New York last night. He agreed to a four-year, $25 million contract, contigent on passing a physical.
The three-time All-Star hit .296 for the Mets last season.
