‘Round the Bases…
* Pitcher Doug Brocail and the Houston Astros agreed Tuesday to a $2.5 million, one-year contract, a deal that includes a team option for 2009.
* Jason Kendall will be guaranteed $4.25 million under the one-year contract he and the Milwaukee Brewers intend to finalize Wednesday.
* Former Colorado Rockies pitcher Dan Serafini was suspended for 50 games on Tuesday, the second player to fail a test for a performance-enhancing drug this season under Major League Baseball’s testing program.
* Left-hander Mike Bacsik, who gave up Barry Bonds’ record-breaking 756th homer, agreed to terms on a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals.
* The Kansas City Royals are interested in Japanese pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, who also is being sought by the Seattle Mariners. He’s a 32-year-old right-hander, was 12-8 with a 3.56 ERA in 26 starts last season for the Hiroshima Carp of the Central League. In 2006, he had a league-best 1.85 ERA. The year before that he led the Central League with 15 victories.
