* Alex Rodriguez set another record for baseball’s highest contract, finalizing his $275 million, 10-year agreement with the New York Yankees on Thursday. The three-time MVP said opting out was “a mistake that was handled extremely poorly”, and also asserted, “It was a huge debacle,” he said, calling the timing “distasteful and very inappropriate.”
* Cliff Floyd and the Rays have agreed on a $3 million, 1 year deal, plus $2 million in performance incentives and includes an option for 2008 earnings.
* Shortstop David Eckstein agreed to terms with the Toronto Blue Jays on a one-year, $4.5 million contract on Thursday.
* Free-agent utility players Rob Mackowiak and Willie Harris agreed to 2008 contracts Thursday with the Washington Nationals, who also avoided arbitration with reliever Jesus Colome by settling on a $1.25 million, one-year deal.
* The Rockies have signed Wells to a one-year, $3 million deal, the Denver Post reports.
* The Oakland Athletics on Thursday signed righthander Kiko Calero to a one-year contract.
* Everett has agreed with the Twins on a one-year contract, one day after he was non-tendered by the Astros, FoxSports.com reports.
* Right-hander Brandon Duckworth avoided salary arbitration and agree to a one-year $600,000 contract with the Kansas City Royals that includes $155,000 in performance incentives
