‘Round the Bases

* Maligned pitcher, Sidney Ponson and the Texas Rangers agreed to a minor league contract Sunday.

* San Diego Padres center fielder Jim Edmonds is expected to miss two to three weeks with a strained right calf.

* Andy LaRoche, who was vying with Nomar Garciaparra for the third base job with the Dodgers, tore a ligament in his right thumb Friday and will need surgery that could sideline him for eight to 10 weeks.

* Longtime actor and comedian, Billy Crystal, will give to live out a lifelong dream — he’ll be suiting up for the Yankees. He will sign a one-day, minor league contract with the New York Yankees and play in Thursday’s exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

* Mrek DeRosa returned to the Cubs lineup — he played for the first time since undergoing a heart procedure on Feb. 28.

* Red Sox ace Josh Beckett is battling back issues, and may miss Opening Day in Japan…
