The NHL To Play At Yankee Stadium?
The NHL hoping to capitalize on their popular & wonderful Winter Classic game that was held a few months ago in Buffalo, they are hoping to get a game in one of the most famous venues in sports — Yankee Stadium.
No agreement is actually in place yet for the possible Yankee Stadium finale, but if a deal does happen, the game would likely be played on New Year’s Day in 2009 and involve the New York Rangers. The opponent for the game has yet to be decided.
In the past, the Yankees have opposed hosting a hockey game because the ice could affect Yankee Stadium field conditions. The team will move into its new stadium to start the 2009 season so the field conditions are no longer an issue.
Look, I am all for playing hockey games outdoors and it’s cool to watch although I’m really not much a fan. Speaking to a few friends of mine who are Yankee fans, they believe Yankee Stadium is hallowed ground and the last sporting event should be a baseball game.
I like the idea, and it does not matter to me, but I can very much understand where my friends are coming from.
