Yankees May Offer Joe Torre a Contract to Stay On…

It looks like Joe Torre will be returning to the New York Yankees after all in light of all the talks, rumors and innuendo.

From ESPN:

Joe Torre, the subject of two days of meetings involving New York Yankees brass, arrived at Legends Field on Thursday for face-to-face talks with the team.

According to reports, the team is expected to announce that Torre is closing in on a one-year deal to return as Yankees manager with a club option for 2009.

The Yankees have scheduled a 4 p.m. ET conference call.

Torre traveled to Tampa from New York with general manager Brian Cashman and chief operating officer Lonn Trost. The manager was at the ballpark for about an hour and then left for the airport.
